DRAMATIC FINISH
The moment Tanzania’s Alphonce Felix Simbu made history by winning the country’s first-ever gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.
The 33-year-old clinched victory in the men’s marathon in Tokyo, Japan, edging out Germany’s Amanal Petros by less than a second in a dramatic sprint finish to the 42km race.
“I don’t think we’ve seen anything like that in a marathon,” Bruce McAvaney said on SBS’s commentary.
